Al Masini (Alfred Masini), was the creator and executive producer of mega-hit television shows including “Entertainment Tonight,” “Star Search,” “Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous,” “Solid Gold,” and “Runaway with the Rich and Famous,” as well as 32 mini-series and numerous television shows and specials.
A pioneer of television syndication, Masini transformed the television industry to what it is today. “Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous,” “Solid Gold,” “Runaway with the Rich and Famous” and “Star Search” are just a few of the iconic shows he created. Each show remained on the air until 1995 and had a remarkable 12-year run after launching on primetime TV in the 1980’s.
Masini also created “Entertainment Tonight.” Masini was once asked by a major station, “How long do you think ‘Entertainment Tonight’ will last?” Masini simply responded, “How long will your 6 p.m. news last?” The reply was “Forever.” Masini’s reply, “That’s the same for ‘Entertainment Tonight.'” “Entertainment Tonight” was the first and remains the number one syndicated entertainment news magazine in the world celebrating its thirtieth anniversary in September 2010.
Robin Leach, host of “Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous” said: “He was the most beloved and well-respected executive in the television industry. A true pioneer who launched first-run syndication in the industry we know today. Everybody recognized him as a first-class act.”
